A small company with big dreams, OnePlus is known for throwing out flagship killers and delivered on its marketing promises right from the beginning. It all started with OnePlus One that boasted high-end specs and helped the company create a value-driven niche market. One Plus 2 and 3 followed the legacy while One Plus 3T was introduced to keep the dice rolling. The new flagship killer brings a lot to the table at a very competitive price and offers great value for the money. A bigger battery, faster chipset and new selfie camera are among the new features One Plus 3T offers, but are the upgrades worth the price hike? Let’s find out.
Big tablet and laptop manufacturers are facing fierce competition from Chinese manufacturers, primarily because of the value for money they offer. TBook 12 Pro packs most of the features and specifications the ‘big names’ are offering for more than twice the price. That’s exactly what makes the tablet such a tempting product, while 12.2 inch is a sweet spot between size and portability. Let’s go through key specifications before getting into the details.

1080p display not suitable for VR
OnePlus 3T packs a Full HD Optic AMOLED display @401ppi, which is kind of a sweet spot for most users. Although the competition now offers QHD displays, OnePlus decided to stick with what works, offers better battery life and does not take its toll on performance. Benchmarks clearly show the benefits of using a FHD display over QHD, while the improvement in battery life is also noticeable. The display is perfectly viewable even under direct sunlight, while the viewing angles are impeccable. The Samsung-made AMOLED display offers vivid and accurate colors and also saves battery juice while watching videos and with black backgrounds.
Powered by a 3400mAh battery the OnePlus 3T offers impressive battery runtimes and can last for days on a single charge with light to moderate usage. The AMOLED display helps a lot when watching videos as the phone can last up to 13 hours of continuous video playback. However, battery timing while browsing the web is not that impressive as the AMOLED panels are not so helpful in saving power with white backgrounds. 3G talk time of more than 30 hours is quite impressive and most users should be able to get two days of battery life on a single charge. OnePlus managed to squeeze in a beefier battery without bumping up the weight or volume. The retail box includes the Dash charger and cable that support Dash charging. The technology eliminates the chances of overheating while providing a good amount of power to the phone (0-60% in just 30 minutes).
The 16MP primary camera is the same as featured in OnePlus 3 and we already know how well and consistently it performed. The Sony IMX298 sensor is good enough for some other top-end devices coming from China, including Huawei Mate 8, Oppo R9 and Xiaomi Mi 5. Although the hardware remains the same, OnePlus fine-tuned the software which results in less noise and better images. Things have changed in the selfie camera department too as OnePlus 3T comes with a 16MP front camera (OnePlus 3 had 8MP). But the amount of pixels doesn’t necessarily mean better quality and the 16MP selfie camera isn’t such a huge upgrade in terms of actual picture quality.
You can expect great performance from the Snapdragon 821 chipset, which was ahead of the pack in terms of raw performance when it was introduced. Coupled with 6 gigs of ram, the performance is as good as it gets and the phone handles everything you throw at it without breaking a sweat. The Adreno 530 graphics deals with graphic-intensive games very well, thanks to the snappy chipset and 1080p resolution. There are only a few phones that came close to OnePlus 3T in terms of raw performance, while the huge amount of available ram future proofs the investment.
OnePlus 3T is a subtle evolution of a great device and preserves the strong and elegant design of its predecessor. Some may complain about the lower-than-competition display resolution, but it translates into better battery timing and graphic performance. ZTE Axon 7 is a strong contender for the position of top value-driven device and offers some extras like the stereo speakers and a microSD card slot. But OnePlus 3T is a class of its own, offers great battery life and hard-to-beat performance. OnePlus 3T is a great phone that’s easy to recommend and is backed by a strong community and software support.
