THL T9 Pro: Great Value, Feature-rich Affordable Smartphone

Chinese manufacturers are giving a tough time to top tier smartphone companies and THL T9 Pro is an excellent example to prove the point. Just a few years back low-cost phones meant cutting every corner to keep the manufacturing costs down. However, things have changed recently and now you can find many capable smartphones for under $100. T9 Pro offers budget conscious users an affordable option that packs most of the features most users require, including a quadcore processor, HD display and even a fingerprint scanner.

Packing a 5.5-inch IPS HD display, a quadcore processor and a 2GB RAM, T9 Pro is capable of handling most day-to-day tasks with ease. You can also expect to play many games (with less details), while the big colorful screen is good for watching your multimedia content and surfing the internet. A 3,000 mAh battery in an 8.5mm phone is also something you don’t see very often. Despite the big display, the phone is still manageable and easy to carry around, hold and use. The rear camera is powered by a SONY sensor and although far from being perfect, it still gets the job done under the right lighting conditions. The fingerprint sensor is quick to recognize inputs and features 360 degrees accuracy. Android Marshmallow out-of-the-box makes the whole package even more attractive and adds great value to it.

THL T9 Pro

Design and Build Quality

Considering the asking price, the build quality of the phone is actually quite good, while THL also didn’t try to copy another phone. The phone looks and feels original in hand and offers a fresh face. Made entirely of plastic, T9 Pro is quite a slim phone and is easy to use and hold. The front is plain black as it features on-screen navigation keys, which is both a good and bad thing depending on who you ask.

Performance

The phone is powered by a Mediatek MT6737 quadcore processor, which is an entry-level SoC for users with limited performance requirements. With 2GB RAM, expect the phone to perform OK while browsing the internet and watching movies. However, the phone would start to lag once you start loading demanding apps/games or multitask heavily.

THL T9 Pro

Cameras, Battery life

Obviously, you cannot expect stellar photos from an under $100 phone, but you can still use it to take some snaps under favorable lighting conditions. The front-facing camera is also ‘just OK’ for video calling and Skype.

A 3,000 mAh battery should be more than enough to keep the phone going for a day or so. The amount of battery time you get certainly on what you want to accomplish, but overall its endurance is slightly better than other phones in the same price category.

Conclusion

Other than the low screen resolution (which is common in this price range), there is not much to complain about T9 Pro. Although the Mediatek processor isn’t the best in terms of performance (actually quite far from it), you should still not face any serious problems in getting your ‘daily stuff’ done. If you are not into serious gaming, heavy multitasking and are low on budget, T9 Pro packs enough power and features to satisfy your needs. Support for dual-SIMs, 4G LTE and a fingerprint sensor (a n accurate and fast one) makes it one of the most balanced phones in its price range.
