Xiaomi Mi 4 went on sale in 2014’s summer and unlike most other phones, it stood relevant for more than 20 months, surpassing lifespan of many other competitors. The Mi 5 is now here, threatening the industry giants with its spectacular looks and lightning fast performance. If you are one of those looking for a phone as powerful and stylish as the Galaxy S7 for a fraction of the price, just keep reading to see how it holds up against the competition.
Xiaomi, also termed as China’s Apple, is a brand very well-known for producing feature-rich phones at an insanely affordable price and Mi 5 is no exception. Mi 5 is a beauty to hold with its unbelievably thin bezels, curved back, a sharp profile and lightweight body. The Snapdragon 820 chipset with 3 or 4 GB Ram, 16MP OIS Camera with 4-axis optical stabilization, beefy battery, plenty of storage options and a bulk load of other features make it stand tall against the competition.

Design and Build Quality
This is where Mi 5 really shines and is one of the hottest-looking flagships around with its compact and light weight design. The metal frame compliments the dual-glass design and provides a strong grip, making handling easier and pleasant.
Some may argue that Mi 5 offers only a 1080 display, while the competitors are offering displays with a much higher resolution. The point is that do we really need a display with resolution higher than 1080p? It’s almost impossible for a naked eye to spot the difference in resolution, which also takes its toll on the battery life.
Mi 5’s 1080p display offers excellent viewing angles, vivid colors and good sunlight readability. At around 600 nits of brightness, you should have no problem in reading the display even under direct sunlight.
The 16MP 4-axis camera is noticeably better than the competition when it comes to a stable, blur-free recording experience. The camera features the SONY IMX 298 senior, which captures some pretty detailed images without much noise and is suitable for all lighting conditions. The front-facing 4MP UltraPixel camera also does the job well and is able to record 1080p videos @ 30fps.
It’s surprising to see a 3,000 mAh battery installed in such a slim and light-weight phone. The battery should last for at least 2 days under moderate-heavy use, which should be more than enough for most users. With around 14 hours of video play back, 13 hours of web browsing and 20 hours of 3G talk time per charge (separately), the battery should suffice for even the power users.
The Mi 5, available for almost half the price of Galaxy S7, is undoubtedly one of the best-looking and capable phones out there and there is little to complain about it. If it’s available in your region, go grab it as you may not be able to find another killer phone at this price. To sum it all in one word, the phone is simply “impressive!”
